It takes a lot for me to say I’m a fan of somebody... but I’m a fan of this guy to my left. If you don’t know who he is, he’s been busy changing the world politically and socially for the past year, so let’s get caught up. [He is most well known for his song “Valerie” that was stolen by Amy Winehouse 😂]

So I am WAY behind on posting pics from my trip but I just got back from Asia last week and have been really busy since then - but I need to get caught up! I’m re-emerging though because it’s my birthday today but I wish I was spending it celebrating with these amazing elephants that I met in Thailand 🐘

Ta Phrom, a 12th/13th century Buddhist temple and university, sits close to nearby Angkor Wat - Cambodia’s most iconic site. Like Angkor Wat, Ta Phrom was abandoned by the Khmer people after many wars and population emigrations, leaving the wild jungle roots to almost swallow it up. The giant tree you see here has grown on top of the very stone construct itself. But what makes Ta Phrom temple most recognizable today is that Angelina Jolie and the filmmakers of the 2001 movie “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” came here to shoot a few very famous scenes in the action-packed flick. We all crowded in close to snap photos of this and plenty of other spots from Ta Phrom (I’ll share more soon), and I could totally remember seeing this place on screen in “Tomb Raider” when I was a kid.

Received a blessing from this Buddhist monk on the grounds of Angkor Wat. It was amazing to hear this monk chanting in a foreign tongue as he blessed me and the members of our little tour group separately, and although I couldn’t determine exactly what he was saying, his serenity and warmth ensured that the message came across totally clearly.

Constructed by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th or early 13th century, Bayon Temple stands at the very center of the ancient Angkor Thom city in northwest Cambodia, outside Siem Reap. The temple is most iconic for its roughly 200 stone faces carved into the upper towers, which depict the bodhisattva Loskesvara. He is a mythical figure that represents the compassion of all Buddhas — something easy to gather from his serene, amiable expression. Each of these giant faces are almost entirely identical, save for some wear and tear sustained over time. I’ll share more photos of Bayon Temple soon; although it is different in scale than the spectacular Angkor Wat, this temple happens to be my favorite for these mysterious smiling faces.

Welcome to Cambodia 🇰🇭 - our next stop! ✈️
Where are we exactly? ANGKOR WAT, city of Siem Reap
Built in the 12th century by Suryavarman II, king of the Khmer Empire, the spectacular temple of Angkor Wat was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu.
Some nine hundred years later, through the wars and invasions and communist rule that have roiled Cambodia, the temple still stands proudly as one of the Khmer people’s greatest treasures.
Deep in the jungle outside Siem Reap, Angkor Wat is the first of many Hindu and Buddhist temples in Cambodia that we’re going to explore together over the next few days. •••
Prepare yourselves for this adventure! You can call it my version of Temple Run 😉

It’s tough to leave beautiful Bali but it’s time to check out some other cool destinations here in Asia. Had an amazing time on this island and can’t wait to come back again for more. But now the adventure continues ✈️

This takes “pool” to an entirely different level (actually, three levels if you count them)
