  • it. is. DONE. 💃🏻 • Been a crazy week for me this week - not only did we announce The Kissing Booth 2 on Netflix and [news coming soon!], but yesterday I finished my latest manuscript and sent it off to my agent! This one was sooo much fun to work on and I’m already looking forward to revisiting the characters in edits - but until then, I need to go back and edit that Christmas book I was working on... Excuse me while I go play Non Stop from Hamilton on loop to give me a boost to keep this madness up! • • • PS. This one has nothing to do with The Kissing Booth 😅

  • One of my biggest regrets is not taking more photos pregnant. I refused to get into photos. But they are pictures together and your baby loves them when they are older -they want to see! It means so much to them. So if even if you don’t want to, do it for them. You won’t regret it ✨✨ 📷@amberhenwood__

  • Write, then rewrite. Hard writing makes easy readying. To produce great content, write and then rewrite. You'll thank me...your readers will thank me. Make it informative AND conversational. The post is not ready to be published after the first draft...spend some time editing. It'll be effort well worth it.

  • Here is something I know: there is never “as much time” as you think you should have to do something. But there is always, always, always enough time to do an obedient thing, a kind thing, a slow progress thing, a slouching toward Bethlehem thing. . Today I walk a little further in chapter 3 of the dissertation, a little further into the outline of a new project, a little way into an essay. None of them are done. None of them are glamorous. . But they are - I hope - little obediences. Little graces. Little goods. And if that’s all I can offer, may I keep going, all of my days. . #philosopher #dissertation #seekingwonder #writinglife #gratitude

  • Last Saturday I was here and I was happy. And this Saturday I’m not but I’m still happy. It feels like I say that surprisingly. I guess sometimes it’s easy for me to believe I’m living only when I’m writing. Maybe because it’s how I understand my existence. I breathe out word after word in a line. I inhale some of them back. I stare at the depth of what happened and appreciate where there are patterns and where something new glitters in the half dark. I explore how I feel and what it means and what I learned and I elaborate and expand and accept things. But, without that, I still breathe. I still sit with my truths. I still see the open road in the early morning. How the trees look dead even after the rain but the birds seem like they’re floating. And the shadows against the overpass. The new light so vivid through the window. As fluorescent as the sadness in this song. I still experience everything. Searching, studying, pursuing, understanding. I see it. I have it. I hold it. Still.

  • One of the greatest blessings I've had while on this writing journey is the support of my church. Pastor Dan and Sent Church have gone out of their way to encourage me with each step I took. I felt no judgement from them for pursuing a genre and style that's not blantetly Christian. While other writers have felt judged for writing fiction, or secular fiction, for pursuing art instead of conventional ministry, or for self-publishing (any many other things) my community has stepped up in every way to help me on my journey. Authors need a team and a support system, and I've never been let down by mine. #author #authorsofinstagram #writinglife #church #ilovemychurch #sentchurch #churchfamily #support #thepowerofart

  • Do you have plans to join NaNoWriMo 20191? I know it's quite early to prepare such a world-renowned competition between writers across the globe. However, it's still best to prepare ahead of time before the competition starts in November. How well are you prepared? What should you prepare in the first place? . . . In this post, you're going to find out how to win the game like I did after joining the first time in 2018. Within months of planning and days of updating on the site, I managed to finish the entire novel on time. Now, how did I do it? You can read it here / and learn more of my strategies I did with my own work. It's going to be helpful for you. . . . #writer #writing #write #author #book #publishing #nanowrimo #writinglife #writerlife #writingcommunity #howtowrite #howto #tips

  • (Katherine on one of our outings. Coming to Ecuador, her Spanish was already far and above my own.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ About a month in, I started taking Spanish classes. For teachers, they were nearly free—just a $5 deposit and I could take the bi-weekly course with CEDEI. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had placed into the lower-intermediate level. 5 years of Spanish classes had something to show, after all—even though my conversational skills were for s---. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I walked into class the first day, there were only two students with the instructor. They were talking animatedly in Spanish. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Debes ser Sarah,” said the professor with a warm smile. She was very welcoming. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Sí,” I squeaked. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That first class, I sat the full hour feeling like a high school student in sex-ed. Not wanting to be called on, wishing I was invisible. The other two students talked on—about their lives, I don’t know—and I was like a new-born baby, taking it all in. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m ashamed to say it. After that first class, I walked out, and I didn’t come back. • Revelation!! I am actively offering to tackle the messy kitchen so I can listen to my audiobooks - currently Save The Cat Writes A Novel. (Podcasts and audiobooks are contributing to a very harmonious marriage...) . However, Save The Cat! Is a stupid book to have on audio. I’ve purchased the hard copy too as I realised 3 minutes into the recording that I’d need to revisit the text A LOT 🤦🏻‍♀️ . Also accompanying my chores these days: The High-Low podcast with Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes which has rocketed my To Read pile from one book to about 14. Gah. . Call Your Girlfriend had a great episode on Instagram Anxiety recently - super interesting if you feel any uneasiness around social media platforms (does anyone not??) . Any great podcast recommendations? The cleanliness of my house depends upon them.... . #writinglife #writersofinstagram #writerscommunityofig #audiobookstagram #fictionwriter #savethecat #savethecatwritesanovel #thehighlow #aspiringauthor
