  • 💥Seven Seas of Rhye💥
.
On February 23rd 1974, exactly 45 years ago today, Queen released "Seven Seas of Rhye" as a single from the Queen II album.
.
✨ It was primarily written by Freddie Mercury, with Brian May contributing the second middle-eight.
.
✨Initially "Seven Seas of Rhye" was simply an "instrumental musical sketch closing their first album". A rudimentary instrumental version appears as the final track on the group's debut album Queen (1973), with the final version on the follow-up Queen II (1974).
.
✨An expanded rendition, planned for inclusion on the album Queen II, was publicly premiered when Queen was offered a sudden chance to appear on Top of the Popsin February 1974, and was rushed to vinyl two days later on 23 February.
.
✨The song became their first chart entry after gaining airtime on BBC Radio 1, peaking at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart, which in turn persuaded Freddie to quit his day job working at a stall in London's Kensington Market.
.
✨In a 1977 radio interview, Freddie Mercury described the subject of the song as a "figment of his imagination". It is based on a fantasy world called Rhye that Freddie had created with his sister, Kashmira. They were brought up on the African island of Zanzibar in the Zoroastrianism religion, founded in Iran, and these fuelled Mercury's flights of fancy. Several other of the Queen singer's early songs feature the mysterious land of Rhye, including Lily Of The Valley, My Fairy King and The March Of The Black Queen.
.
👉P.S. This is one of my absolute favorite Queen songs and I still remember how I felt when I first heard that beautiful piano intro.
The song's got all the Freddie elements you need: the intricate piano composition, the brilliant exotic songwriting and lyrics, and the layered harmonies which became a Queen classic.
I also love this song because it is literally where it all began and the music of Queen was introduced to the world. And I'm proud that it was Freddie's song that finally did it.
.
And the video is perfection of course...those hypnotizing eyes that fiercely stare into your soul...and that gorgeous hair he flicks away from his face 🔥😩🔥

“My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to/ Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small/ You never need to carry more than you can hold/ And while you're out there getting where you're getting to/ I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too.”
