New Mexico’s organic farms face some of the most challenging growing conditions in the country. The talent and hard work it takes to coax crops out of the desert is truly commendable. After I was laid off last year, I immediately started looking for jobs, as you do. But deep down, what I really wanted was to finally start my own business. For a little while, life was in limbo as I both searched for jobs and built a business.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the midst of that, I proposed a mother-daughter road trip to Santa Fe. Why not? I don't visit my parents as much as I should. When would I have another chance to spend that kind of extended quality time with my mom? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But if I landed a new job quickly, the trip was likely to never happen. "I almost hope you don't get a job," my mom said. Me too!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The idea of the Santa Fe trip actually helped motivate me to make the business work. I could taste the open road, the liberty of determining my own path. I became addicted to the feeling of freedom that accompanied the trip we were planning. I wanted to be able to do that anytime I wanted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone. I don't know what I did to get lucky enough to find such a beautiful, sweet, loving woman who wants to put up with my goofy ass, but I thank my lucky stars.
Our first full day in Santa Fe has been wonderful and if I had to describe this place simply, I would say Earth... like the alchemical element of Earth. Not just the architecture, but the crafts, the feel, the people, the warmth and hominess, it just all feels pulled right up from the earth itself. I know that's a little metaphysical, but that's the feeling I get. As a person who's normally Air and Fire in nature, it is quite calming.
