📷 Photo friends and clients/friends: what is the most frustrating part of PRICING when it comes to wedding (or portrait) photography? .
I remember trying to figure out pricing as a young photographer. It was super frustrating...how much, when to raise prices, sell albums, ala carte, what to put in a package, destination wedding...UGH! .
Then my friend @thebecker really helped me out one day with some practical tips. It wasn’t magic but it got me going in the right direction and I was able to tweak the system to be consistent in my pricing and gradually increase as I booked more. .
All of that being said, I’ve been helping out a lot of photographers with pricing during mentor sessions but I’m thinking of doing my first course on the subject. DM me to get on the list, I’ll throw in a bonus for pricing destination weddings for the first 50 signups. 🌊

Do you start to feel overwhelmed with all the wedding planning? What you need to know and what you need to ask each vendor that you interview? I get it, it can be a lot!
That’s why blog posts from big wedding companies that help you get all your vendor interview questions in a row can be so great. But here’s the secret. They don’t actually know/understand everything about every specific wedding service industry and sometimes they give the wrong information.
We’ve started blogging about some of these topics (pertaining to photography) that some of these big blogs are discussing. We’re clearing the air, correcting some misinformation and hopefully helping you understand the photography industry a little better so you can go into that wedding photography consultation with confidence.

Calling all #photogogetters 👋
YOU ARE AMAZING.
Repeat this 15 times before you walk into that next client meeting.
The one you’re going to close because you know you’re amazing *and* you believe in your abilities to make your clients dreams come true.
If you don’t have this, 🛑 cancel the meeting.
You won’t close the client.
You won’t sell the big album package.
The difference between selling 🤷♀️ meh and selling ⚡️BIG ⚡️with confidence isn’t in your gear kit. It’s not even in your portfolio. And it’s super-not in your IG likes and follows. Nope. Sorry.
They hire you for YOU. You extraordinary person you!
So, remember: YOU ARE AMAZING.
Believe it inside and out. If you don’t—no one else will believe you with their hearts or their wallets.
We have a loooong list of skills to master. Am I right? We have to get really good at...
🧾 Spreadsheets, numbers & pricing
📷 Knowing what gear to use when
😬 How to tame chaos (hello, wedding photographers)
🤭 Managing high emotions & big personalities
💨 Making fart jokes when uncooperative two year olds go solid stink eye at your family sessions
💥Oh, and photography
And we all know that’s just a small snippet of a *very* long list of skills we photographers must master to be successful.
Here’s what you also need to master: EDITING.
I’ve interviewed 1000s of photographers over the years to shoot for my studio @artisanevents and the number 1 skill I see consistently lacking is editing.
And I see photo industry folks that encourage photographers to outsource editing. (Psst. I think this is a BIG, epic mistake.)
I’m all about doing less, making more and building a smart business.
But if you want to become the best at what you do, grow and learn from your epic wins and humble fails—learning to edit your work helps get you there faster.
And I mean edit your work CONSISTENTLY.
Mastering editing means you master knowing your style inside and out, it means you master sales as a result (and that puts 💰in your bank) and it means you master how your work communicates with the world.
You can be the best photographer in the world but if your editing sucks, your work is going to suck. And if your work sucks, your sales are going to suck too.
And yes, eventually you can and should outsource editing. But putting this skill set on your must-master list first will help you and your bottom line soooo much in the long run.
Raise your hand and comment below if you feel like you struggle in the Master Editor department?
What part of the process do you get stuck?

I was recently interviewed for a photography podcast. 🤓
I talk about my street photos, my work with dancers and all of the difficulties that come with the job.

// love where you live // throwing it back to this amazing day with my girl! I rarely get out on the hill with friends anymore because I’m too busy and I always feel behind. (Stressssssful!) it takes a lot to run a profitable full time photography business! And the more ‘successful’ you become, the more opportunities arise, the more work you take on... the cycle repeats. 😳🤦🏼♀️😳. I’m sure there are a lot of photographers and small business owners who can relate. And there’s hope.
. . . .
Its time to break that cycle and change those habits in 2019! For me, that’s filling my cup FIRST. Investing my resources (time+money) in my nutrition, fitness and personal development so I can give my best to the people I love, my clients and my photo biz! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2019; not because I’m blindly hoping for good fortune but because I’m working my ass off to intentionally create it. . . . Anyone else in this boat?!
