I can’t draw; I didn’t learn that craft. I am trained as a scribe: someone who makes careful, formal marks, usually to represent speech. But not exactly a drawing of speech, more like a graphical encoding of it. I departed from writing language a long time ago: I found the act of making the formal marks more interesting and now I find they can be used to encode other human phenomena. I don’t pretend this is a drawing of a mind in turmoil. More the visceral result of that turmoil. This surface was formally attacked. Each stroke given a precisely varying pressure, direction and twist of the writing tool. All as quickly as possible to ensure the graphical strength of each one. This is an unreadable text, not because it is illegible (ie deformed or overwritten letters or characters) but because it has nothing to do with language. Nevertheless, I claim it is a meaningful one..
