Occupying the heart of the Pink City, the splendid City Palace has been home to the rulers of Jaipur since the early 18th century. A striking blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture, it is a complex of courtyards, gardens, and extensive buildings.
Since the royal family still occupies a part of the complex, the visitors enter the City Palace through a modest gate on the eastern side and it directly opens into the first of the two main courtyards.
Some of the prominent palaces inside the complex are Chandra Mahal, Badal Mahal, Shri Govind Devji Temple and Mubarak Mahal.
Chandra Mahal, the main royal residence, is a place of absolute beauty and luxury, fully ornamented with paintings, mirror walls, ceilings and floral decorations. It is a seven-storeyed building and each floor has been given a specific name.
The stunning Chhavi Nivas, which is also known as Hall of Images, an open blue color room with white lines located on the 5th floor of Chandra Mahal, is one of the spectacular sights in the City Palace.
The bright Persian blue coloured walls and ceilings of this room were decorated with some really stunning paint works of white coloured flowers and leaves. In the rainy season this place was the retreat of the Maharaja.
