  • One of the most common fears we hear from people who are wanting to show up more in their relationships is “i don’t know what to say/do” when a loved one is having a hard time. Often when we’re not sure what’s needed from us, we feel compelled to try to make things better. After all, it’s painful and uncomfortable to see those we care about hurting!

Toxic Positivity (appreciating this new-to-us term btw!) is often well-intended, but can end up making our loved ones feel missed or invalidated. It can also inadvertently send the message that “there’s something wrong with me” if i feel challenged to “just think positive thoughts” or “just get over it.”

Additionally, affirmations of positivity neglect to consider one’s environmental/cultural context and ignore systemic oppressions that can’t be changed with positive thinking. To tell a person of marginalized intersectional identities to “just be happy” or “see the good in everything” is reinforcing systems of oppression and completely minimizing and invalidating their VERY VALID experience.

  • I often feel overwhelmed by the "normal" things that we have to do as adults, like cleaning, paying bills, walking the dogs, making tea.  I used to thrive on being busy and it was almost as if I enjoyed stress and pressure. Since suffering from depression and anxiety I'm quite the opposite, I can have just 3 things to do and feel flustered. I won't even mention how stressed I got earlier this week when i had to test drive my new car, or when I had to decide which yoga insurance to buy. 
I HATE making decisions. I overthink everything, all because I want to get things right, be a good teacher, be a good mummy to my fur babies, be a good girlfriend....the list goes on.

But I can't do any of those things unless I look after myself first. It's to the point now where if I haven't done some yoga (home practice, meditation, gone to a full class, whatever), then @aims_carr will say "I think it's time for you to do some yoga". I have no shame in admitting this, self care is key. You need to be there for yourself before you can be there for anyone else. I know I need to be reminded of this so often. Maybe you do too. So get yourself to a yoga class, have a bubble bath, meditate, read a book, go for a walk. Whatever it is that you need, take time this weekend to do it!

Today is the day I lost you. 
If I would’ve written yesterday this page would’ve been covered in tears, but today is the day I reflect on the happy times with you, the memories that we made, and the unconditional love that I have for you. 
One memory that makes me laugh is when we were in the grocery store and you picked up a bag of candy from the shelf... seeing this perfect opportunity I yelled out “OOOOO!!! SHE’S STEALING!” 😂 haha you looked at me shocked.. then threw the bag back at the shelf and booked it out of the isle. 
I miss embarrassing you and laughing with you 💕

  • ➰I haven’t been the best me lately. I hate when I get stuck in these ruts. I feel like a failure and a nothing. I close off from every positive, every passion, every strength I possess. I hate myself at these times. And the mom guilt sets in hard. I like to tell myself at these points my soul and spirit are trying to stop me in the direction I’m going in and try to bring me back on track. But then I can’t figure out what I was doing wrong. And the time and headspace I need to figure that out feels impossible to achieve. Anyway, sorry for the long post just kicking myself in the ass to figure my shit out ➰#itsoktonotbeok#intentions

  • Growing up Audrey Hepburn was my idol. One of her famous quotes was “Happy girls are the prettiest.” And so perpetuated my confusion about my place in the world, especially about how I’m “supposed” to feel as a woman but also as a person. Entering my field of work I was also confused about my place and what I’m “supposed” to be like. For example, I like to swear. Sometimes I use it as punctuation! And in my mind I think “Am I fitting that yoga teacher mould? What will they think of me? I’m not 100% peaceful ALL. THE. TIME. Am I a fraud??” I’ve been sitting with this for a while now and information keeps flooding in to me thankfully 💙  I shared this article I really enjoyed on my personal social media which I’m taking a break from- so I want to make sure I share it here as this may start the momentum of setting someone free. Life’s a journey with hills and valleys. Acknowledge all of yourself, all of your feelings.
