new times bring new things.
but if you keep people from your past.
imprisoned in your idea.
of who they used to be.
you will never see.
what they have grown into.
whoever you meet.
look at them with clean eyes.
for maybe they have changed.
just like you did.

“Protest in New Orleans” - Fat Tuesday photos I snapped, two Mardi Gras ago. We came to Bourbon Street to revel in a time-honored celebration amidst the hordes in this one-of-a-kind cultural experience. At this end of the street, we met up with the Westfield procession, hurling angry epithets and vitriol at the “sinners”. @angelareneroberts in her free-spirited makeshift costume of mardi gras beads jumped in for a photo and aroused the ire of a participant with a bullhorn, who preceded to berate her in the most abusive & vile language I’ve ever witnessed publicly. The real source of love that radiates for me in this pair of images comes from my friend. Both photos are an excellent reminder to me today to focus on cultivating compassion for others. There are many human beings who perceive the world differently than I do. I need to reach for compassion, not dismiss people out of hand because of behavior I do not understand. I still love Angela’s graceful freedom in these images, but not my motivation for taking them. Producing eyerolls among those who already agree with you is easy. Provoking the protesters wasn’t any more difficult than antagonizing an already snarling dog behind a fence. Today, I wish all of the people we encountered more peace in their lives than they had on that day. I wish peace for all of us & a world with far less polarization. #mardigras#choosecompassion#growth#acceptance#love

Hey everybody welcome to The Midday Cup. Hope you’re having a great Saturday. One thing I noticed recently that makes positivity difficult is tendency to view things as good or bad. A tip to improve our outlook is to change our mode of thinking. Perspective is something that has been discussed regularly here and in order to really understand that things are a matter of how we view them it’s important to understand ways in which can actually change the way we think, for the better.
Rather than thinking of something as 'bad' we can think of it as challenging or as a learning experience. When we encounter difficulties in life we should seek to better understand them and evaluate ways in which to adjust.
If we get in a car accident, and it was someone else’s fault, we can think, “that person needs to learn how to drive,” or we can think, “I need to improve my driving skills, I need to be more aware, I need to become a better driver, to avoid accidents.” In on scenario we cast blame away from our selves. This is a dangerous way to think because often we cannot do anything and we become a victim. BUT in the latter scenario we cast blame on ourselves. This can be a powerful tool because we CAN change ourselves, ultimately we are responsible for our own actions.
This ultimately shifts the focus to self improvement, “the world doesn’t need to come down a notch I need to come up a notch.” Often we may think that someone else is to blame for something, it may be someone else’s fault, but this is not helpful. We haven’t got control over others but we have control over ourselves, what matters is what we do and how we adjust to our surroundings.

Show yourself some love by being thankful for your progression—don’t take into account HOW MUCH progress. Honor yourself for there being progress period.
You are in your own little world on your own little journey. As you go from moment to moment, becoming the essence of what you are, it wouldn’t hurt to pay yourself on the shoulder. The will to change doesn’t come easy...yet, here you are 💗
Your victories are just that—YOURS. It is not for anyone else to define.
Honestly today feels like a win and I haven’t even competed yet. I started on this journey with @carmafitness at the end of October. Mentally it has been tough. There have been days where I let perfectionism get to me and feel like I’m not doing enough even though I’m working hard. There were days leading up to this check in where I panicked that I wouldn’t meet my goal since starting this cut; but I did it. I made my goal and this is the best shape I have ever been in. Meeting this goal has me feeling more confident for the show and that fire in me is burning even more to reach my next goal by the end of March. Moral of the story my friends, don’t let the inner saboteur get to you and trust the process. Thank you thank you thank you @carmafitness #carmafitness#npcbikini#npcbikinicompetitor#npcbikiniprep#fitness#rmflex#fitfam#bodybuilding#growth#progress
Did you know that that every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation? All of our self-talk, our internal dialogue, is a stream of affirmations. ... You're affirming and creating your life experiences with every word and thought. Your beliefs are merely habitual thinking patterns that you learned as a child.
🤷♀️ in case you have never been told this, It isn’t selfish to protect your own mental health above all else.
👉I have had my own experiences with this and through it I have learnt two things:
1. I have been the toxic person I have also been the victim of toxic people
... my preservation goal is not to be either ever again. ☝️😅
2. I am an empath: meaning my heart has a lot more intuitive power than my brain most of the time. But my brain is smarter of the two and I have to trust my gut, not my heart IF I wish to preserve. 👏
I know that this viewpoint may come across as selfish at times but it’s actually better this way ... because I am my best , and able to perform and be at my best (( and not be a hazardous person to other people )) when I am guarding and preserving , when this is the case am able deliver my gifts 🎁 and be a present, and strong person for the people I come into contact with - not someone who is infected with negativity and low level thinking. 👋😃
If you find yourself “in the vacuume , constantly is on you to remove yourself and then preserve yourself, otherwise - you will be stuck. — #negativity#positivity#selfhelp#personalgrowth#selfcare#empath#spiritual#aligned#relatable#mentalhealth#performance#freedomhackers#freedom#growth
