  • ❗️LONG POST❗️ So by now we all know that cowboy bebop is getting a live action right? Well turns out our “other girl”meme photo got reposted everywhere after the news was released. I saw it on Imgur, Facebook, Reddit, and instagram. Aside from the fact that neither myself, the other cosplayers or the photographer were given credit on these posts.... there was something else that happened. I was body shamed A LOT. It didn’t matter how much work we all put into our costumes or how epic that photo was, the comment that kept coming up was about my legs. I have some cellulite, you most likely have it too. It’s just bumps underneath our skin. It makes no difference on you as a person or certainly on how attractive you are. I never saw anything wrong with how I looked until I read those comments and that frustrated the hell out of me. I know, I should just avoid the comment section but this felt like a bigger issue. Shaming someone for how they look, especially in the cosplay community, is never okay. I feel like this issue is often just swept under the rug or talked about in private and that doesn’t feel right. To put so much love into this costume only to be then brought down, being called disgusting for a little bit of cellulite, feels awful. Cosplay was one of the first experiences that made me confident about how I looked and that post has been haunting me. I wanted to just curl up in a hole and never put on that costume again. But honestly, I don’t give a fuck anymore if you don’t like how my legs look, and I’m going to keep cosplaying. I worked so hard to build up the confidence in my skin and no one can take that away from me. In the cosplay community women are expected to be these perfect air brushed models 24/7 and its ridiculous. THATS NOT WHAT COSPLAY IS ABOUT. We cosplay because we love these characters, we cosplay because it makes us feel good, and we shouldn’t let “standards” stop us from doing what makes us happy. You can cosplay whoever you want no matter your shape, color, or gender. Body shaming should not be tolerated and anyone who feels the need to comment on another person's body...you can escort yourself the fuck out.👋🏻
