Compilation of three different caterpillar defense mechanisms! The first one is a video I'm sure you've seen around, the Pachylia syces caterpillar. This caterpillar makes a clicking noise and thrashes around to scare off predators. The second one is a king swallowtail caterpillar exposing its osmeterium, a bright orange "horn" that comes out and emits a pungent smell. The third is a walnut Sphinx moth caterpillar making its defensive squeaking noise. All these different caterpillars have their own unique and effective way of telling predators not to eat them 😆 No caterpillars were harmed in the making of these videos!! I think it's really cool to compare the sounds/signals these caterpillars have evolved to produce!
