  • Spottswoode is a small, family-owned estate located on the western edge of St. Helena in the Napa Valley. The estate, which dates to the 1800s, includes classic formal gardens, pre-prohibition winery buildings and the 40-acre, organically farmed estate vineyard. Spottswoode focuses all of its attention on producing extremely limited quantities of two wines: Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.⁣ ⁣ This wine exudes power and elegance. Dense and focused with primary, bright, youthful, fresh characters. Plenty of ripe blue and red fruit accompanied by notes of mocha, carob, butterscotch, and toast. Hints of dried herb and rose petal. Long, clean, and fresh, its strong acid backbone is a hallmark of what will be another long-lived, collectible wine. Discernable tannins that are youthful yet lengthy complement the underlying intense fruit. Great texture! All the promise you like to find in a young wine.⁣ Blend: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot

  • Heartbroken by the passing of Gianfranco Soldera... we have lost another master. In his remembrance, I opened and savored the 2006. Tasted in Zalto Bordeaux with no decanting, this displayed the typical hallmark of Case Basse. Ethereal and very aromatic with alluring red fruits, floral and herbal perfume. Graceful, elegant and refined...I could go all on day with superlatives. Truly the pinnacle of Sangiovese and there is nothing else quite like it. Thank you for providing us with such sensual and unforgettable wine experiences.   • Chiudiamo la presentazione dei vini in degustazione Tornando a Santorini e scopriamo i vini di una cantina storica, quella di HATZIDAKIS. @hatzidakis_winery La Cantina Hatzidakis è stato istituita nel 1997 dal Haridimos Hatzidakis e dalla Konstantina Chrisou, l’anno 1998 escono con le prime etichette e cioè "Santorini" 1997 e "Mavrotragano" 1997 dalla omonima varietà autoctona di Santorini. Haridimos Hatzidakis (scomparso nel 2017) applicava fedelmente i principi dell'agricoltura biologica, perché come diceva ... "un buon vino si fa in cantina un vino eccellente si fa in vigna. I vini in degustazione sono NYKTERI 2017 Il Nikteri (Notturno) è il vino fatto come si faceva tradizionalmente una volta. Le uve venivano raccolte dopo il calar del sole, al fresco della sera, proseguendo poi con la vinificazione durante la notte. Vino di elevata maturità tradizionalmente raccolto nelle prime ore della maturazione avanzata. Il risultato è super denso, maturo, complesso, caldo con un grande potenziale di invecchiamento. Il legame perduto tra Santorini e una Madeira secca. Al naso troviamo il caratteristico carattere fruttato dell'Asyrtiko, il gusto pieno e intenso e il grande retrogusto finale Colore giallo oro Profumi di frutta gialla matura, spezie dell'alba e mineralità. Sapore dinamico con eccellente equilibrio di acidità SKYTALI 2017 Il nome di questo vino è profondamente simbolico. Il Testimone 2016 proviene da un serbatoio vinificato dal indimenticabile Haridimos Hatzidakis e la destinazione originale è stato imbottigliato come semplice Santorini. Ma questo lotto di "dimenticato" sui lieviti per più di dodici mesi. La perdita di Haridimos ha ritardato l’imbottigliamento... Quando il vino è stato provato, era chiaro che la lunga maturazione aveva cambiato il suo carattere per il meglio, che lo rende completamente diverso dall'etichetta base 2016. La famiglia Hatzidakis ha deciso di lanciare questo prodotto con una nuova etichetta, e di continuare la produzione nelle prossime annate, seguendo lo stesso protocollo di maturazione. Così ha creato il Testimone. Il passaggio dal padre ai figli!

  • Over the past couple months I've been hella busy. Full time job, condo repairs and upgrades, parenting, planning, strategizing and networking. This year's winemaking project hasn't been as successful as I would've liked it to be. I've lost an entire batch due to having too much going on. This week I'm fully concentrating on the remaining wine I have. This particular bottle (see Decbember post) is from a finished experimental batch of three strands of muscadines. I can say this was a success and will be added to my recipe list. Now to enioy some food along with it. #wine #vino #homeadewine #muscadinewine #southernwine #southerntradition
