About The Shape:
I’ve always loved Mike Vallely’s Elephant On The Edge board by World Industries back in 89-90. I was never able to get one though. My buddy Steve Dusek had one and I would always try to ride his any chance he would give me. That board felt so good to me when I was 14.
When Mike reissued that board on Street Plant a year or so ago, my childhood dream came true. That board has been in my mix of boards for awhile now. I have a blast skating it! I then thought, wouldn’t it be great to have a board with my modern dimensions but with the look and feel of The Elephant On The Edge board?
So here it is. After working with Paul Schmitt and Mike, I’ve come up with my new pro model shape. It’s got all the dimensions of my Popsicle and Ninja shape but has the look, feel and vibe as The Elephant On The Edge. This also is my widest pro model yet, maxing out at 8.75 inches wide up at your front foot. It follows a nice curve back (perfected by Paul Schmitt) to 8.25 wide at the back truck. It’s important to me to have my common dimensions even on a bigger board with shape. That way you can still do all the modern street skating type stuff, without feeling like your riding a boat and you get to look down at a sweet shape! Really fun board! — @kristiansvitak

Rise Above was the first Black Flag Song I ever heard. It was September 1984, Keith Hartel and Don Bruno made me a “punk rock” mix tape in Keith’s basement bedroom in Edison, NJ — Rise Above was the first song on that tape. This was also the day that I first saw Thrasher Magazine and became a Skateboarder.
A month later we went to see Black Flag on the Slip It In Tour at City Gardens in Trenton, NJ. This was a Life-Affirming Experience — From that day forward I was going to go 100% at Anything and Everything I did.
That winter I bought the My War Record at Vintage Vinyl Records in Fords, NJ, and it’s still my favorite Black Flag Record to this day. Getting to perform that Album from cover to cover w/ Black Flag in 2003 as a Guest Vocalist was surreal and a lot of Fun. Being asked to join Black Flag in 2014 as the Band’s 5th Vocalist wasn’t something I could have ever imagined or dared to Dream.
I have nothing but Great Respect for the Singers that have come before me, and I have only ever tried to Honor and Pay Tribute to them each night while adding what is essentially my own. It’s not an easy thing to take on, but I have embraced it, and I do the best I can, giving it my all every time I step on the stage.
As we begin to announce @blackflagband Shows and Tour Dates for 2019, I can’t help but wonder what the 14-Year-Old me would think of all of this (see photo for some idea of what his reaction would be like ha, ha!). Always a Fan, I look Forward to meeting other Fans Up The Road! We’ll be seeing You soon! Much Love and Thanks for All of Your Support!
On November 11, 2005 I broke my ankle in front of a packed house at Boarderline Skatepark in West Chester, PA. So many people had come out to see me that night, even traveling from as far away as Texas, and I was injured only twenty minutes into the demo. I felt really bad, not so much for myself, but I couldn’t help but feel that I’d let everyone down. So, while I was waiting for an ambulance to come and take me to the hospital, I allowed people to get in line and I took photos with, and signed items for as many people as I could before the paramedics arrived. This photo recently surfaced of me and Josh — as I waited for medical attention — who I had been looking forward to meeting that night. It would have been nice if the circumstances were different, but meeting Josh and taking this photo with him was a highlight from a lowlight in my life. Thanks to my Good Friend @briansteez for Sharing this pic with me. Much Love!
