Democratic women members ready for the SOTU! 💖 "The fate of women is resilient in the face of the Trump administration, whose coordinated hollowing out of government is hurting women," @rosa_delauro told reporters on Capitol Hill. "We are not shying away. We are fighting." DeLauro ticked of a list of "rollbacks" by the administration that she says have harmed women, including decreasing nursing home protections for seniors, altering the rules for Title X family planning grants, and making it easier for some employers to exclude birth control from health insurance benefits under the Affordable Care Act. "Women made ourselves heard in the 2018 midterms, and we are making ourselves heard now because in spite of this administration and their regulatory attacks, the state of women is, was and will be strong," DeLauro said. 👊🏿👊🏽👊🏻 Nothing more beautiful than women standing together! 💯 #shepersisted#futureisfemale#counteveryvote#reclaimingmytime and p.s. Selma to Montgomery, March 21, 1965 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King along with thousands including @repjohnlewis march for civil rights. We honor Dr. King not just one day a year but every single day to fight for justice. A day to reflect on what you are doing, today, to change the world. #counteveryvote#reclaimingmytime#shepersisted

This man is my hero. Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax is the second African American elected to statewide office in Virginia, and he briefly bowed out of his duties in the state Senate on Friday in protest of a tribute to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. From the @washingtonpost “I believe there are certain people in history we should honor that way in the Senate . . . and I don’t believe that he is one of them,” Fairfax, a descendant of slaves, said in an interview afterward. “I think it’s very divisive to do what was done there, particularly in light of the history that we’re now commemorating — 400 years since the first enslaved Africans came to the commonwealth of Virginia.” Why should Lt. Governor Fairfax, a descendant of slaves, be the one forced to speak this truth to power? Bravo for him. It’s time the rest of us do our part.

My intrepid daughter is moving today to Kigali, Rwanda and I just bust out in tears thinking how I will miss her but more importantly how proud and excited I am. She is working both to save the world and live her best life. 🌸 I’m one lucky mom - she is teaching me how to live! 💖 #shepersisted#feminist#changetheworld
